NCHH Launches New Resource Library: Healthcare Financing of Healthy Homes

10/28/2014

The National Center for Healthy Housing (NCHH) launched a new suite of online resources to help public health and housing agencies understand and identify opportunities to partner with healthcare entities in the provision of better quality housing.

“The Affordable Care Act reinforces that things outside of the healthcare system, such as housing, can dramatically impact our health. Navigating the opportunities for housing to collaborate with healthcare can be overwhelming for practitioners,” said Rebecca Morley, executive director of the National Center for Healthy Housing. “By providing practical information about ripe opportunities we hope to accelerate state and local partnerships and spur innovation.”

The new resource library consolidates the vast array of informational resources on healthy housing and healthcare financing into a one-stop location. Users can learn about strategies for financing healthy homes activities (such as asthma trigger management and lead poisoning prevention) through real-world case studies, information about emerging opportunities, and links to relevant resources and background materials.

The resource library includes reports and technical briefs developed by other organizations and three new technical briefs created by NCHH:

  • Pathways to Reimbursement: Understanding and Expanding Medicaid Services in Your State
  • Hospital Community Benefits: Opportunities for Healthy Homes
  • Reimbursement for Healthy Homes Services: A Case Study of Leveraging Existing Medicaid Authority in Texas

The resource library includes a discussion module and two-question survey for users to share ideas and resources. NCHH plans to update and refine the resource library as new information and opportunities emerge.

The resource library was made possible through a contract between the American Public Health Association and the National Center for Healthy Housing, funded through cooperative agreement between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Public Health Association.
